What is Village Kochi 2025? A Weekend Market for “Enjoying Life” Along Kagami River
On October 18-19, 2025 (Sat-Sun), the banks of Kagami River in Takajo-machi, Kochi City, hosted Village Kochi 2025—a large-scale market themed “Mono to Shoku, Oto ga Kanaderu Donichichi” (モノと食、音が奏でる土日市 / A Weekend Market Where Goods, Food & Music Play Together).
Note: This happened a while back, but I’m posting as a future reference for next year’s event!

Approximately 200 vendors gathered across venues including Midori no Hiroba (Green Plaza), Takajo Park, and Yamauchi Shrine, creating a vibrant space where:
- Handcrafted goods & pottery
- Baked goods & artisan bread
- Spice curry & gourmet street food
- Live music performances
…all converged into one immersive experience.
The intimate scale—where you can chat directly with makers while browsing—is what makes this event truly special.
🍛 Food Adventures: Discovering “Kochi Flavors” Through Eating & Walking
First Stop: Kitchen Ni-Da’s Omurice
My first pause was at Kitchen Ni-Da for their omurice topped with plump fried shrimp—a luxurious treat.

My friend chose from Yukido’s Curry Bread: taco rice and freshly fried lotus root keema curry bread.

We also grabbed a carefully poured latte from Machiruda ROAST.33. Everything tasted incredible, and eating while gazing at Kagami River in the comfortable autumn breeze felt like pure magic.
Second Round: SANROKU COFFEE’s Maitake & Corn Curry
Still hunting for more culinary gems, I devoured SANROKU COFFEE’s maitake mushroom and corn curry. Belly satisfied, I headed into round two—this time hunting for beautiful pottery.

🏺 Encountering Pottery: The Handcraft Zone Where Artistry Shines
After indulging in food, I wandered into the craft area.
Rows of ceramic bowls and plates, each carefully fired by individual pottery artists, lined the stalls. Soft color palettes, gradient glazes, the warmth you feel when holding them in your hands—every piece reflected its maker’s unique personality.
The One That Stole My Heart: Inui Utsuwa’s Square Plate
Among them, I discovered Inui Utsuwa’s thin, square plate. It had a subtle pinkish hue I’d never encountered before—instant love at first sight.
“This will DEFINITELY make sashimi (red fish) look stunning!” (Photos coming in a future post!)
I asked the artist, “How do you create square plates?” and they kindly explained the process. These conversations are what make markets like this so enriching.
Bonus: My dog was thoroughly adored by the shop owner and looked utterly pleased with themselves. 🐕

💭 Memories of “Making,” “Eating,” and “Enjoying”
Village Kochi 2025 wasn’t just a marché—it was a place packed with hints for “enjoying life more fully.”
Eating. Choosing tableware. These are small choices that gently enrich your daily living. This event reminded me of that truth.
Another big takeaway: Discovering so many delicious shops I’d never visited before was a treasure in itself.
What wonderful “things” and “people” will I encounter next year? I’m already looking forward to it.
Why I share these moments: As someone exploring both business and lifestyle in Kochi, I believe community markets—where makers meet eaters, where conversations spark purchases—represent the soul of local culture. Every handmade plate and curry pan tells a story of dedication. Let’s celebrate these connections together! 🍂🏺
