In this special edition, I took a quick escape to Kagawa Prefecture for a Sanuki Udon adventure. I’ll be introducing my favorite udon shops and some inspiring power spots in this 2-part series.
🍜 Stop 1: Udon Matsuyuki in Mitoyo City
This is hands-down my favorite udon shop in Kagawa.
I ordered the Chilled Ontama Bukkake Udon – thick, chewy noodles paired with a clear, aromatic broth. Absolutely divine.
The spacious interior makes it family-friendly, and the freshly fried tempura lineup is impressive.
Summer-only: Try the refreshing Sudachi Udon for a citrusy twist!
They also offer semi-dried udon (150g per serving) for takeout — made with the same high-quality flour and no preservatives, so you can enjoy the flavor of Matsuyuki at home.

🦆 Stop 2: Ikeko Udon in Tadotsu Town
To be honest, I used to be one of those people who’d say, “Curry udon? Not for me.”
But after hearing rave reviews, I came to Ikeko hoping to try their legendary curry udon—only to find out it’s only available in winter! Looks like I’ll be back for a return trip. 😅
Instead, I ordered their Niku Kamo Bukkake Udon, a bowl generously topped with sweet-simmered beef and flame-grilled duck.
The richness of the meats—tender and juicy—combined with the perfectly chewy noodles, was far beyond what I expected. A hidden gem!Next time, I’ll definitely aim for their Aburi Kamo Udon (grilled duck udon)!
They also offer seasonal menus and freshly fried tempura that change throughout the year.
