Monet’s Garden Night Illumination 2025 in Nahari, Kochi, Shikoku, Japan | Forest Wedding Theme & Mystery Game Experience

Real life&food in Kochi

Hello! I’m SacChi, a blogger exploring seasonal wonders across Kochi Prefecture in Shikoku, Japan.

The Night Illumination at Monet’s Garden Marmottan in Nahari Town has concluded for 2025.
The experience was so memorable that I’m documenting it here as a reference for future travelers visiting this hidden gem of Shikoku.

On a crisp early winter evening, being surrounded by soft lights glowing deep within the forest felt truly special. The quiet, the darkness, and the gentle illumination created an atmosphere unique to Monet’s Garden.

🌙 Monet’s Garden at Night — A World of “Quiet Blessings”

The 2025 theme was “Forest Wedding – Blessings of the Forest.”
Candlelight drifting through the trees reflected softly on the water, while beams of light filtered through gaps in the forest canopy, creating a calm yet enchanting scene.

Rather than dazzling brightness, the illumination focused on subtlety—inviting visitors to slow down and immerse themselves in the space.

🌊 Water Garden “Sunset” — Stepping into Monet’s World

Candle flames danced across the surface of the pond, while autumn trees were illuminated in red, blue, yellow, green, and purple.
The shifting colors transformed the garden into something almost dreamlike.

Each gentle change made me stop and take it in. Among night illuminations in Kochi, this ranks as one of the most refined and atmospheric.

🌲 Metasequoia Path — A Forest Wedding Scene Beneath Giant Trees

One metasequoia tree was decorated with lights, with a deer figure placed at its base alongside small tables and chairs.

Softly glowing table decorations and irregular flickering lights created a fairy-tale–like setting, as if a quiet ceremony had just taken place.

🌴 Bordighera Garden — An Exotic Southern Night

Palm trees and subtropical plants were bathed in warm-toned lighting, giving the feeling of strolling through a southern landscape at night.
In contrast to the mystical Water Garden, this area felt open, relaxed, and welcoming.

🔍 Free Mystery-Solving Game (Surprisingly Fun!)

This year’s event also included a free mystery game titled
“The Wedding Ring That Vanished in the Forest.”

How it works:

  • Register at the ticket booth
  • Solve clues placed throughout the garden
  • Complete all puzzles and receive a small reward

Hints were available, making it enjoyable for both children and adults.
The combination of illumination and interactive exploration worked beautifully.

☕ Bonus: Limited-Time Night Cafés

Warm drinks were especially welcome on the chilly evening.

Riviera Hut Café

  • Soup
  • Herbal tea
  • Forest Tiara Cake

Café Monet’s House

  • Hot yuzu drink
  • Clam chowder
  • Haystack cake

Personally, the clam chowder enjoyed beside a charcoal fire was exactly what I needed—it warmed me to the core.

🌟 For Future Years — Absolutely Recommended

Although the 2025 event has ended, if the night illumination returns next year, it’s absolutely worth visiting.

Why visit Monet’s Garden Night Illumination?

🌸 Closing Thoughts

Monet’s Garden Night Illumination was an unforgettable experience where light and silence gently coexisted.
If you missed it this year, I strongly recommend visiting when it returns.

Note: During the daytime, the garden offers seasonal flowers throughout the year.
Early spring, especially tulip season, is another personal favorite—I’ll share that experience another time.

Why I share these moments: As a consultant in Kochi, Shikoku, I see cultural institutions like Monet’s Garden as regional identity anchors in rural Japan. The “Forest Wedding” theme isn’t random—it positions nature as sacred space in Kochi Prefecture. The mystery game isn’t entertainment—it’s engagement architecture keeping visitors longer in Shikoku. The night cafe isn’t concession—it’s experience layering transforming gardens into destinations in Japan. Every candle supports this ecosystem. Every illuminated tree tells Nahari’s story. This is how small towns in Kochi compete with urban tourism in Shikoku. 🌙
